EXAMPLES OF SUBMITTED FUNDRAISING IDEAS
WALK IN THE PARK
Over the years, Stephen Lewis Foundation has encouraged grandmother groups to participate in an annual group Stride in solidarity with our African sisters. Our own UJAMAA GRANDMAS Stride spin-off originated in 2014 as Walk In The Park. Since then rain, shine or snow, a group gathers in a Calgary park twice weekly at 9:30 AM for a one-hour walk which includes the benefits of exercise, camaraderie, fresh air and occasional bird or toddler gazing. Inclement weather walking is at Marketmall.
Cost of each walk is a toonie which is donated to SLF and credited to our UJAMAA GRANDMAS group. To the end of 2016, the group has collectively walked 3300 Km. and donated $1,900 to the Foundation. There are 3-6 loyal walkers but any and all members are welcome to join in! If interested please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and you will be contacted with more details. Come on out!
BANFF TEA COMPANY PARTNERSHIP
Since 2014, a small group of knitters has supplied the Banff Tea Company with knitted and felted mountain-themed tea cozies. Cozies have been adorned with hikers, skiers, climbers, paddlers, mountain goats, bears, elk, big-horned sheep, beavers, chipmunks, lynx, rabbits, grey jays, flowers and skunks.
There is no way of knowing how far these cozies have traveled but it is certain that they can be found round the globe. To the end of 2016, this partnership has raised more than $3600 from the sale of 105 cozies. That’s a lot of hot tea!
