MOVING FORWARD WITH STRENGTH – THE 2017 ALBERTA GRANDMOTHERS ANNUAL PROVINCIAL GATHERING
Our Grandmothers to Grandmothers Provincial Gathering will be held in Red Deer on September 15th and 16th. This year the theme is Moving Forward With Strength. And what better way to be inspired than to have Ida Nambeya Mukuka as one of our keynote speakers. Many of us have heard her speak and she relays our African Grandmothers’ stories with a heartfelt manner that makes us feel as if we are right there alongside them. As well as Ida, Joanna Henry, Director of Learning and Resource Development at the Foundation and the author of Powered by Love: A Grandmothers’ Movement to End AIDS in Africa will be introducing the book We will be getting a preview of the book as the launch across the country will be from October 10th to November 6th. (More about our launch here in Calgary later). The Friday night guest speaker is a human rights and social justice advocate, Tara Ward, who will be talking about Women Who Inspire Us to Keep Working for Change.
This annual gathering of Alberta Grandmothers is a wonderful way to get to know more about what is happening at the Foundation level as well as how other Alberta grandmothers groups are creating awareness, fundraising and nurturing their groups. There are many interesting workshops offered. So, please consider joining us as we gather to support each other in this second decade of the Grandmothers Campaign.
For information, see the Provincial Gathering Schedule 2017 and for registration and billeting information, see link below.
Oh! And as you send in your registration form, our GrammaLink Africa hosts ask that we be sure to include our cheques, keeping everything together as they organize this special event.
We will also be asking Ujamaa Grandma members to help organize and provide baking for the Saturday morning breakfast. Look for more details about that in the next E-News.
See you in Red Deer!
