BAKE SALE

Every November since 2009, UJAMAA GRANDMAS members and friends have offered examples of our culinary skills at our bake sale at the Calgary Justice Film Festival.

The Festival is a wonderful event featuring thought-provoking films on issues such as climate change, food security, women’r rights, and refugees, and about countries from all corners of our world. All films are free! Ujamaa Grandmas members and friends donate a variety of baking and homemade snacks for sale to the audiences and others. Homemade offerings may include Christmas cookies, cakes, pies, tarts, loaves, breads, jams, squares, snacks, and gluten- free treats.

You can participate in this initiative by baking, selling, buying baked items and/or attending some of the excellent films. The efforts of our members are very much appreciated whether through preparing delicacies for sale and/or volunteering time at the sale tables. A call for baking and request for volunteers goes out to members each year at the beginning of November.

Besides raising funds, the sale creates awareness about our group, our other sales, and the important work we do for the Stephen Lewis Foundation and our sisters in Africa.
