STRIDE TO TURN THE TIDE

Stride to Turn the Tide is a solidarity and awareness-raising walk that was conceived in 2010 by the Canmore, Alberta, grandmothers group and it soon took hold across grandmothers groups across the country. Members and their supporters walk together physically, or virtually, to raise funds in support of grandmothers and their community-led organizations in sub-Saharan Africa who are responding to the AIDS pandemic.

To the end of 2025, collective efforts have raised over $3 million.

UJAMAA GRANDMAS teams have been raising funds via STRIDE since June 2020.  Goals for distance/activity & fundraising are set, members sign-up and are requested to keep track of their activities (1 hour of activity = 5 km). Examples of activities reported are walking, cycling, golfing, knitting, sewing, crafting, gardening, housecleaning. The activity totals are measured in distance on a map of African countries where SLF is present.
